13th Annual Full Moon Drive

Where: We'll start in Broomfield this year, checking out the new Mazda dealership facility of Sill-Terhar Mazda. We plan to get there by 3 pm. Park in their west lot, adjacent to Nickel St, or along 1st Ave or at the bowling alley on Nickel and 1st. Bathrooms are inside (along with likely eager sales people). Let's see what sort of reception they give us, for revving up a Saturday afternoon of car shopping -- they know we're coming! If you come up via Hwy 36 and/or Hwy 287/Wadsworth, you can fuel up at Midway and 287, just before turning right (east) on Midway and then right again (south) on Nickel, to the dealership. We'll convene for the drivers' meeting and waiver-signing at 3:45, and get wheels moving north at 4 pm. We'll talk about the route at the meeting, and should make it to the lake by 6 pm or so.

Details: Pack up your favorite picnic goodies, and we'll head up to a picnic area at lovely Lily Lake, on the Peak to Peak Hwy. Not into a picnic? Walk across the road to the Seven Keys Lodge (sevenkeyslodge.com, 970.586.5397, formerly the Baldpate Inn) to enjoy food and drink from their tasting menu.

Option: At dusk, we'll make our way to the Alpine Visitor Center on top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Park entrance fee should not be required, as we'll be entering after the entrance is un-personed. After taking in the high-altitude vistas, we'll head home -- or on over the pass to Grand Lake, if you like -- under the light (we hope!) of the full moon.
